Hau ‘oli Makahiki Hou!
Happy New Year from Hawai'i, land of double rainbows.
We're fortunate in Hawai'i to see rainbows quite often and even more fortunate to see double rainbows.
Rainbows remind me to see the world in a positive light and trust that the mythical pot of gold awaits all of us if we just follow the dazzling colors that define our creative lives.
My early interest in rainbows comes directly from one of my all time favorite movies--The Wizard of Oz.
I'm not talking about
the cartoon version or the modern remakes, but the 1939 Judy Garland movie where the transition from black and white on the farm to full color when Dorothy lands in Oz is a cinematic marvel.
I remember seeing the classic movie as a child and thinking the song, "Over the Rainbow," was the most wonderful song I'd ever heard. I still love the lyrics and many of the more modern variations of the song.
If you've never listened to the Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole - "Over the Rainbow & What a Wonderful World" version, try it.
And remember these lyrics when you feel down and need to believe in something, anything, that lifts your spirits.
Happy New Year.
